SUN ELECTRIC – Live at Votivkirche Wien – ARJUNAMUSIC RECORDS

Made all the more remarkable by the fact that this was recorded back in
1996 when Sun Electric performed at the neo-Gothic, Votivkirche in Vienna. A fact that surprised me simply because the music feels so contemporary. Which brings me back to the theory about music transcending time, or at least music of cultural and human importance doing so.

Sounding like an orchestra of ideas playing out in real-time in wide open spaces, Max Loderbauer & Tom Thiel create aural landscapes to drift off into the sunset with. Not in unemotional or unimaginative ways but engaging trips into the consciousness, sub or otherwise. Listen to the celestial, cosmic rays igniting the keyboards from Flat and Endless. Breathless, beautiful, full of blessed humanity. And as always there are contrasts within each piece as they develop, almost into something else. Lending the experience a lived-in, gathering moments as they occur, momentum. The audience appreciation only makes you wish that you were there in person too.

A timely reminder.
