Greg Fenton reviews V.ictor – Morpho- – Archipel Musique Canada
Treading on eggshells while the tension of uncertainty gathers particles around the crackling spark of dangerous electricity. It sounds like an unearthly mystery but certain tracks found within V.ictor’s brand-new long player for Pheek’s excellent Archipel Musique Canada illustrate that feeling filled by wild abandon.
Sometimes I wonder if the crackles igniting most of the music are simply interference rather than musical punctuation. But here the atmosphere and enlightenment of the senses are intertwined on the same page as the sonic conversation which encompasses every creative flair speaks volumes. Simplicity under the guise of complexity lends this collection of sublime musical poetry an unsettling forward motion just as it does an excess of introspective thought. Beautiful and/ or otherwise.
The music created is warm and soul-enhancing with sublime pads and intentional drones extending into the bliss exhilarated by the edgy, blistering fizz of distortion playing with memory and perception such as on the completing incendiary sixth number, Pneuma-. The album is likewise an outstanding composition of ideas to find yourself lost in, while not abandoning reason or a true sense of self, for it feels like a serious point is being transmitted between us. Morpho- is a wonderful and thrilling listen.
