Greg Fenton reviews Rising Sun – The Eternal – Echocord

The Eternal feels like a proudly apt title for this release. Sometimes you can’t explain everything so the allure of mystery only adds to the pleasure. I guess you could also say that Eternal 1 opening this full-length exploration of sight and sound is meditative as overlapping waves of keys, stabs alongside a background whir of intensity trips seamlessly off the tongue as indeed does the smoky breath of voice while storms gather in the distance.

The hypnotic provocation of Eternal 2 follows adding a soft pulse from a beat to now grittier stabs and so the process evolves across each of the subsequent numbers totalling six. Running at over 30 minutes duration ideas are teased out and detonated. At the same time, solace is sought through repetition and I haven’t even mentioned the word minimal yet, simply because this is more complex and richly rewarding than reductive explanations and guesswork may suggest.

Release: March 15
