Greg Fenton reviews Quiet Village – Reunion – Quiet Village
Placing the words quiet and village beside each other suggests serenity and security. However, underpinning the calm are waves of underlying intensity coursing throughout the lifelines of Reunion via hard, shuffling drums, alongside tense piano amid a warm glow of musical fortitude espousing the rewards of jazz and the feeling of being human. In other words, this is beautiful in that reassuring, reaffirming way that only music of this caliber can do. Oh, and there are cool blasts of horns peppering that same sensation. Also, try the beat-free Reprise to enhance all of the above from Matt ‘Radio Slave’ Edwards and Joel Martin.
