Magazine Sixty Music Review with Leit Motif

Greg Fenton reviews Leit Motif – Vestige – See Blue Audio

There is a warmth and depth of emotion found within Vestige which isn’t readily apparent in much of the drone-generated music posing as Ambient that it can feel like wading in a climate of sameness. It’s not hard to appreciate this album for what it is and isn’t. Created by Fragile X under his Leit Motif guise the compositions are filled with ideas of wonder and discovery at their heart journeying far and wide into cosmic places or fathoming blue oceans in their wake.

Daringly expanding the reach beyond the increasingly accepted three-minute timeframe this expanse of creative impulses rewards listening with a series of close-your-eyes and lose-yourself moments as tones and sequences evolve around you. Try, Before You and I Were Us for a taste.

Combinating degrees of the happiness instinct alongside the defiant loneliness of unseen suggestions make for a compelling listen. You are never quite sure what mood or brushstroke of emotion you’re likely to encounter next while the music deftly plays with uncertainties of contrast, which in my book is how it should be. Or to put it in other words, when the sonic art of artistic endeavour is realised and formed. The final breath then grants the bliss of mercy via Veni Vidi Amavi while elevating sounds to heaven or elsewhere to complete this tantalising listen.
