Magazine Sixty Music Review with Francesca Lombardo

Greg Fenton reviews Francesca Lombardo – It All Starts With A Star – Maison D’Etre

Once upon a time, listening to new electronic music was filled with excitement, stepping onto creative pathways and experiencing sound in forward motion. The music spoke to you reinforcing belief in possibilities and for you, agitating culture, in ways that deemed the comfort of nostalgia irrelevant. You get that sense of creative impulse and artistic drive rekindled here on It All Starts With A Star. It’s full of musical promise that doesn’t immediately sound like everything else while delivering an imaginative arrangement that teases the senses rather than dulling them. Words fuse with punctuating drums alongside the hot wire of imagination generated by the excellent Original Dream Mix. This is then complemented by Anthony Middleton’s brilliant, breathy intake of The Darker The Night Remix which caresses atmospheres and moods wonderfully compacted by the sincerity of smokey, jazzy tones and a haunting bliss of classically pitched, cascading strings.

A more, equally tempting, robust version follows featuring Francesco Tristano this time exposing the sparkling piano in dazzling glory. Leaving the edgier spark of the Monotonic Club Mix to further ignite the imagination via its parade of fiery stabs and rugged, compelling bass.
