Magazine Sixty Music Review with Double Body

Greg Fenton reviews Double Body – Mirage EP – Ransom Note Records

Why should music do as you expect? Be predictable and or boring. It’s diving into the sense of uncertain mystery that is surely the more exciting prospect. The title track Mirage begins by setting the stage with a series of bruising kick drums, which are soon joined by carefully crafted hypnotic bass, as a raft of voices command the airwaves while never seemingly revealing their full intention. It’s captivating, slightly dangerous, and patently rather brilliant.

Hallucination proceeds with stuttered beats and a heavenly chorus of vocals continuing to create the chaos of strange collages. Next is the sublime Apparition fusing the thrill of uncertainty with the reassurance of chiming melody resulting in further compelling, sensory-enhancing experiences. The EP ends with Justine Forever’s punchy cool remix of Mirage and the compelling firey drive of Chicago flavour.
