Magazine Sixty Music Review with Cher

Greg Fenton reviews Cher – C1M3R4_Analog cut_v3 – Arthouse

Traian Chereches aka Cher tackles future scenarios amid the prospect of ecological disaster via the first release of his new imprint across six bold pieces of significant music. As much experimental as it is charged with the radical influence of jazz and the heavy use of repetition to drive the point home try the opening Pharmakon for a robust taste. Next, for contrast, Poison offers lighter relief in the form of its pulsating yet sincerely intense funkiness, while Modify Me sounds like technological redress as a sequence of mysteries serves the senses with sizzling electrical discourse and a defiant air of edgy disclosure.

Night Sentinel sends something in the way of a more celebratory moment with its bouncy drums, bass and chorus of pads feeling like a party. However, my favourite track is the resplendent 34 driven by stand-up bass alongside an assortment of sound effects, cool jazzy keys and probing enquiry. It’s also a shade over thirteen minutes long, sorry Spotify. Completing the release is the curiously titled Marketplace Spirituality which no doubt says something of definite importance about the state of things in the shortest time possible.
