Magazine Sixty City Guide to Madrid with Delone

From our guest interviewer.

Andrés Téllez, aka Delone, is a composer, producer, and designer of sound for film and TV. He founded Riverette Records in 2014 releasing artists like Legowelt, Jacques Renault, and Tiger & Woods, while his music has been released on Man Power’s ME ME ME, Turbocapitalism and Rotten City.

In 2017 Riverette opened a record store in the center of Madrid, a hub for all things dance in the vibrant Spanish capital. His new album ‘Romanticismo Siempre’ is due out on the local Madrid-based label Lovemonk and is a passionate journey through romanticism, electronica, and psychedelia.

As Spain’s center and most populous city, we thought it would be cool to get the inside track on Madrid from Delone.

“Madrid is a wonderful, very diverse, and welcoming city. It’s the city where I was born and where I’ve lived the most. It’s a city that is constantly growing. It’s really impressive how fast it has grown in the last 50 years. So much of my identity comes from Madrid, but I also try to learn as much as I can from each place I live or visit so that also forms part of my identity…”

What is your favourite place to sit and watch the world go by in Madrid?

“San Lorenzo del Escorial”. There are a lot of places where you can sit and watch, not only the town itself, which is charming and beautiful, also you have an insane view of the skyline of the city. It’s placed in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama just 50 kilometers from Madrid.

What is your favourite music venue and why?

El “Teatro Real” is architecture, engineering, and art, all at once.

What is your top tip for a good restaurant in the city?

“La Cueva”, in San Lorenzo del Escorial. It’s a very beautiful and authentic restaurant with a little tavern there too.

What is your favourite bar and why do you like it?

“Bodega de la Ardosa”, located in Malasaña district, is one of the most iconic districts in Madrid. The bar is like a time-capsule to the 19th century.

What is the best club where you are?

Depending on the music you wanna listen to, you have different kinds of clubs. It’s a city with multiple vibes and very cool venues. I would recommend “Cafe Berlín”. Also “Specka” is a classic club, but if you are looking for big rooms there are also a few places like “Mondo Disko”, “Fitz” or “The Basement” too.

Tell us your tip for the best record shop?

I would highly recommend going to El Almacén de Discos and Palma 39. But there are a bunch more if you want to dive in.

What is the thing you like to do most in your city when time permits?

Enjoy the nice weather with some friends, doing some activities or sports. There are often some really good expos and conferences too. I recently attended one in the “Juan March Foundation” about John Ford’s cinema. I really enjoyed that one.

What do you think is the most interesting fact about Madrid?

Madrid is like an oasis in the middle of Spain. “Magerit” means “land rich in water” in Arabic. The environment is truly overwhelming.
