My first thought was maybe I should try listening to Halos of Perception on headphones to see if it felt any more intimate than it so obviously does. Like you were closer to the source. It didn’t. Because this collection of sonic sculptures couldn’t be anymore faithful to the importance of shared experience in today’s lost world. It did however amplify the sheer emotional rollercoaster charging the notes while populating this rather particular, rather beautiful music. Anyway, sometimes it’s simply best to let sounds escape freely through the airspace allowing them to travel in more natural, more organic ways, then reach and connect with you to achieve best results. As is so spectacularly the case here.
Perhaps this collection of pieces are about the architecture of movement and how we interact with their constraints, how they may steer us certain directions or suggest certain thought patterns. Is life more about process now? The sequences and loops feel like a curve in the air, alongside an imaginary journey from A to a possible Z, or thereabouts. Curiosity is clearly king/ queen.
After the haunting realities conjured up by Limestone and The Painted Room it comes in the shape of some light relief that the poignant yet sublime happiness infusing Stairway To The Interior shines quite so brightly. However, things may not always be as they appear and the contrasting heavy dash of sound effects rumble away in disquiet, rupturing the seemingly fragile peace.
I always gently place music of such fiery composure, of soulful depth, in the expansive canon of Classical. I guess because of the timeless nature of it all. As if it will always sound and feel the same way.
Cobwebs are blows with delicate ease, shimmering, echoing. Amulet Of Sweat then completes this release via a hypersensitive, hyperreal blast of breathy cool pitching all of the elements so readily utilised here in succession: passion, piano, forward-thinking structures of sonic potential plus the warm human touch of engagement. Continuing moments of spirit. A conversation between souls.
