Sable Blanc – Have Faith In People – Salin Records

It’s always such a pleasure to hear music like this as it celebrates not only the occasion but also a sense of joy. The opening track, the breezy Jazz tones of Amour Girls are underpinned by energetic breakbeats plus the fiery fury of undulating Acid and are all at once rather wonderful. The remix by Christophe Salin adds the pulse of dancefloor urgency while keeping the essence true, contrasting the mood with tough beats and probing bass. Just Goodbye is next and caresses the word disco as soulful vibes are explored, with the more introspective Les Hirondelles De Mai complimenting notably. The twist of drums then informs the final number, Easy Living as low-slung elements get criss-crossed through the vision of night-time to complete.

Sable Blanc – Homecoming – Salin Records

Long players are still very much an important factor in the makeup of today’s digital output. Especially when they are worth spending some time with. Developed around the inspiration gained from a recent trip to NYC Sable Blanc has produced an elegant, purposeful collection of tracks, each telling their own story. There’s a nice interplay between the feel of real instrumentation and the pulse of electronics surrounding the musicality. And for me the jazzy moments such as Limo And Theatre (feat. Reuben Lewis) are particularly telling as cool trumpet blasts ignite the autumn air, conversely the quick-fire sequence of piano notes seek out a fitting ending on the tastefully atmospheric, Yakima Pepperoni. The album is accompanied by a series of photographs alongside explanations to reveal the thought process involved and how the artist arrived finally at Homecoming.
